Sakura was in her father's study room and found a book called the "Clow Book" she opens it, and found 52 Clow Cards, 4 which were powerful elements, Fire, Wind, Water & Earth. She removed one card, called the windy and accidentally calls upon its powers, causing all the other cards to be blown away. Because she had released them, she would be the one to bring them back. Kero, the guardian of the cards woke up and was very upset at first, but decided to help Sakura get the cards back. 

Later in the series Sakura catches the Silent card, as has no idea that a boy, her age is watching her, from a tall tower. The only words he spoke were " There's a clow card nearby." She has a dream later, about a boy in a chinese costume. The next day at school there's a new transfer student in her class named Li showron. When he comes in and sees Sakura, he stares hard at her and doesn't take his eyes off her, Madison points to his seat and he walks by like he is higher than them (higher class). 
Li ends up sitting right behind Sakura and spends the entire class glaring at her back, which Sakura senses and is all nervous. 
After school, Li finds Sakura and demanded that She handed over all the Clow Cards, but Sakura wouldn’t so he tried to take them by force, which didn't work because her brother Tori jumped the fence and stopped him. Jullian jumped not too long after, and at the sight of Jullian, Li ran off, tripping in the vegetable patch. 

After the thunder card was sealed, Li basically implied that Sakura was an idiot when it came to capturing cards. 
They worked together the next view battles and LI started to be a bit nicer to her, as mush as he could. This is about the time when Meilin, his cousin arrives! She is also Li's fiancee from back home. 
Meilin is very "clingy" to Li especially infront of Sakura so she wouldn't think of stealing him from her, which of cause Sakura had no intension to do. 
Much later meilin returned to Hong Kong, After all the cards had been captured, Sakura and Li had established a nice friendship. A new transfer student arrived from England named, Erol. 
He was very nice and polite to Sakura, which in a way, bothered LI and he didn't know why. 
One day Sakura, Li and Sakura's best friend, Madison, were in a store and Sakura bought a teddybear-kit. Sakura and Madison didn't know at the time, but Li also bought the kit and made a cute, dark blue bear by himself, which he didn't know what to do with until he heard someone say that "when make a bear, you sew your name on it and give it to the person that you love." That's when he saw Sakura and got all these 'funny feelings'..when Sakura turned around and greeted him, Li ran away as fast as he could! 
The episodes after that basically had him get really jealous when he saw Sakura and Erol together, or be really protective of Sakura when a battle occured. In a signifigent event, the two of them were locked in an elevator when the wall suddenly vanished and Sakura was walking backwards toward it. Li ran to grab her but he missed her hand and she fell down the shaft. He freaked out and screamed her name. She survived with the help of her float card though! When she got back up, Li was relieved and hugged her. 
After the final battle to seal her clow cards, Li, all weak and struggling to stand up, finally told Sakura that he loved her. It impacted her alot. 
She could barely say "good morning" to him the next day. 
Li then got a call from his mother later and he was told to return to Hong Kong because all the cards had been captured and sealed. He never told this to Sakura, but met her after school on the bridge to tell her that he was thankful for have meeting her. At this point, Sakura was trying to answer him back , about her love for him, but he ran away before she could! She found out from Madison that Li was leaving and ran to the airport to see him. 
She still couldn't tell him how she felt, so instead, she asked if she could have his bear. Li smiled and gave it to her. Before he got on his plane, Sakura's last words to him were, "We shall meet again, right?" 

Four months later (2nd Card Captor movie) Sakura and Madison are in an amusement park, when Sakura senses a strange force inside the park. She ran into the park and accidentally crashed into someone. The person grabbed her wrist so she wouldn't fall over when she lost her balance. She apologized and looked up to see that the person was Li! Then they just kinda gape at eachother and Meilin comes running around the corner! 
They go to a small park and Meilin and Li explain that they came back for the festival (Meiling had other intentions). She tells Sakura secretly that her engagement to Li is off and that she knew Li loved someone else so let it happen. 
Meilin and Madison planned to play matchmaker and get Sakura to tell Li that she loved him too. 
Li and Sakura were put into all these awkward situations (for example, Meilin stuck them on the ferris wheel ride together) but she was always interrupted when she tried to tell him how she felt. 
At the time, Sakura was playing a princess in a class play, but when the leading boy broke his arm, he requested that Li takes his role as the prince. 
The stage lights explode and people start to vanish (this is because there's a spirit floating around and stealing Sakura's clow cards. And to seal this person into a card, a card captor will lose an important feeling. In specific, the ability to love another). 
Sakura later sealed the spirit into a card (the Hope card) and was about to lose her "important feeling" when the magic chose Li as a sacrifice instead of her. 
Before this happened, he said, "Even if I do lose this feeling.. I'm still..." then this black power surrounded him and he just kind of stood there. Sakura started crying and said she didn't care if he thought differently now, and she told him that she loved him more than anything. Li didn't react. 
She start crying again until she heard him say, "Me too, Sakura..." 
As it turned out, the magic didn't work because his feelings toward Sakura were a bit too strong to be taken away. She was so happy that she took a couple steps back, so she could jump toward him (there was a huge gap between the two of them because the spirit had made a wall vanish). She ran and jumped into the air yelling, "I love you!" while he stood ready to catch her.
